Huntington Beach Ca- Coming off a hot wins both teams were ready to face each other yet again. The last time these two faced off it ended in a one-point game as Edison lost to Yorba Linda 22-21. The chargers were ready to get their get back. Despite their hunger, Yorba Linda would spoil their appetite in the final minutes, taking the win over Edison 21-17.
The first quarter was a defensive battle, as both teams traded punts and Edison’s early drives were stopped by Yorba Linda defenders Blake Thorp and Chase Sparks. Neither team could break through, and the opening quarter ended scoreless.
Yorba Linda found their momentum in the second quarter when Trujillo capped off a strong drive with a 7-yard touchdown run. Bostyn Wilson added the extra point to give the Mustangs a 7-0 lead. Edison immediately responded, returning the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown and tying the game at 7-7 heading into halftime.
Edison seized momentum in the third quarter, driving deep into Yorba Linda territory before scoring on a 5-yard touchdown pass to take a 14-7 lead. The Chargers added a field goal late in the period, extending their advantage to 17-7.
Facing a 10-point deficit, Yorba Linda turned to its ground game in the fourth quarter. Trujillo, along with big runs from Troy Roberts, Colin O’Connor, and Vaughn Sharp, pushed the Mustangs into scoring position. Trujillo punched in a 2-yard touchdown run to cut the deficit to 17-14. On their next possession, Yorba Linda marched down the field again, with Trujillo finishing the drive on a 3-yard run for his third touchdown of the night. Wilson’s extra point gave Yorba Linda a 21-17 lead with under three minutes to play.
Edison mounted one final push, advancing to Yorba Linda’s 10-yard line in the final minute. But the Mustang defense held firm, forcing a turnover on downs and sealing the victory. Trujillo finished with all three of Yorba Linda’s touchdowns, proving to be the difference in a game defined by momentum swings and late drama. Next week Yorba Linda will be facing San Jacinto in a thriller matchup you can’t miss it!
