Milwaukee, WI- The Los Angeles Angels’ struggles continued Wednesday night as the Milwaukee Brewers rode a five-run second inning and a dominant outing from Brandon Woodruff to a 9–2 victory at American Family Field.
The Angels got an early scare when starter José Soriano was struck on the right forearm by a 107-mph line drive in the second inning. Soriano left the game with a contusion, though X-rays later showed no fracture. With Soriano out, Los Angeles turned to the bullpen early — and Milwaukee quickly took advantage.
Blake Perkins delivered the first blow with a two-run single, and Sal Frelick followed with a towering three-run homer to right. The Brewers never looked back, building a 5–0 cushion before the Angels could settle down.
Meanwhile, Woodruff looked sharp after extra rest. The Brewers’ right-hander struck out nine over five innings, allowing just one run on two hits. His fastball had late life, and his command kept the Angels off balance all night.
The only bright spot for Los Angeles came from Taylor Ward, who launched a pair of solo home runs — one in the fourth inning and another in the sixth. Outside of Ward, the Angels’ lineup mustered little offense, collecting just three hits total.
Milwaukee’s attack kept rolling. Christian Yelich added his 29th home run of the season, a two-run shot in the fourth, and ripped an RBI double earlier in the game. Perkins later capped his career night with a bases-loaded triple in the eighth, finishing with five RBIs.
The Angels have now dropped six straight games, sliding further out of postseason contention. The Brewers, on the other hand, continue to look like one of baseball’s most complete teams as they close in on another NL Central title.
Los Angeles will try to regroup as the series continues, while Milwaukee looks to maintain its momentum heading into the final stretch of the regular season.
