Orange CA- Huntington Beach would start their season on the road as they would go across town and play Orange High School. The last time these two teams met, it was back-to-back action all four quarters, their final score was 56-42. Hopes were high for both teams as they entered the game.

The Oilers would set the tone with Brady Edmunds finding Troy Foster to connect for the first touchdown of the season. In the 2nd quarter, Nathan Villanueva would have a rushing touchdown to put the Oilers with a huge lead. Orange would respond right before the quarter ended, and they would go for the 2 points, but failed to do so. The game would go into halftime with the scoring being 14-6.

The third quarter belonged to Huntington Beach. After pinning Orange deep with help from their special teams, the Oilers would capitalize on this as Steel Kurtz would find the end zone. Orange tried to rally in the fourth quarter with a passing touchdown, but Huntington Beach answered right back as Brady Edmunds connected with Troy Foster for a score to make it 35-12. The Oilers’ defense added an interception late in the game, stalling another potential Orange comeback attempt. Orange found the end zone one more time on the ground, but a missed extra point sealed the final margin at 35-18.
Speaking with Brady Edmunds after the game he mentioned a goal his team and him have, “Definitely win a CIF Championship, going 10-0. I think that’s something on everyone’s mind. For me, being a better leader and making everyone around me better”. With the win, Huntington Beach is definitely showed their firepower on offense and resilience on defense. Next up they face Trabuco Hills who will be opening their season against them.
