In a high-energy showdown at a packed stadium with over 1,000 fans in attendance, Mater Dei came away with a 29-19 win over Servite in a game that showcased both offensive firepower and resilient play from the visiting team.
The Monarchs struck first, quickly establishing a lead with a series of powerful rushing plays. By midway through the second quarter, Mater Dei had scored two rushing touchdowns, including a 5-yard dash by #19 Mark Bowman, putting the Monarchs ahead 16-0 after a successful PAT. Before halftime, Bowman found the end zone again, giving Mater Dei a commanding 22-0 lead. Servite managed to respond just before the break with a 34-yard passing touchdown from #8 Kale Murphy to #14 Judah Clark, closing the gap slightly to 22-7 at halftime.
Mater Dei came out of the locker room strong in the third quarter, adding another rushing touchdown and extending their lead to 29-7. Servite’s defense tightened late in the third quarter, preventing further scoring and setting the stage for a fourth-quarter push.
The Friars showed their determination in the final frame, with Murphy connecting on two more touchdown passes—first to #80 Mataua Niumata and later again to Judah Clark. However, both two-point conversion attempts failed, keeping Servite behind 19-29. A last-minute scramble, including a recovered onside kick and a drive to Mater Dei’s 46-yard line, ultimately fell short as Mater Dei sealed the win after a turnover on downs with under a minute to play.
The game was played under fair weather and dry field conditions, which allowed both teams to showcase their speed and passing abilities. While Mater Dei dominated early with a strong rushing attack, Servite’s late comeback attempts highlighted their resilience and passing talent, particularly from quarterback Kale Murphy.
In the end, Mater Dei’s balanced offensive attack and early scoring runs were enough to secure the victory, giving them a 29-19 final over a determined Servite squad.
