LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Los Angeles FC continued its dominant run of form on Saturday night, cruising to a convincing 4-0 victory over Sporting Kansas City at BMO Stadium. Denis Bouanga scored twice, while Son Heung-min and David Martínez each added a goal as LAFC extended its winning streak to four matches.
The Black & Gold wasted no time taking control of the match. Just five minutes into the contest, Son Heung-min found the back of the net after chasing down a perfectly weighted through ball from Mark Delgado. The South Korean international fought off his defender before calmly finishing past the goalkeeper for his third goal of the season and his third consecutive match with a goal since returning from the World Cup break.
LAFC continued to apply pressure throughout the first half and doubled its advantage in the 37th minute. Mathieu Choinière delivered a long pass that found Denis Bouanga streaking behind the Sporting KC defense. Bouanga controlled the ball in stride, powered past his defender, and slotted home his 9th goal of the MLS campaign.
Just before halftime, LAFC struck again on another devastating counterattack. Bouanga started the move by playing David Martínez into space with Son making a supporting run. Martínez kept his composure and buried his sixth goal of the season, giving LAFC a commanding 3-0 lead heading into the break.
Sporting Kansas City struggled to generate any attacking opportunities throughout the evening. LAFC’s defense remained organized and disciplined, limiting Sporting KC to just one shot on target, which didn’t come until the 77th minute. Veteran goalkeeper Hugo Lloris was rarely tested, making one save while recording his league-leading 10th clean sheet of the season.
Bouanga completed his brace in the 85th minute to put the finishing touches on another dominant LAFC performance. Ryan Porteous launched a long ball forward to Tyler Boyd, who quickly squared a pass across the box for Bouanga to finish from close range, sealing the 4-0 victory.
The win continues LAFC’s impressive resurgence following the World Cup break. Powered by the attacking partnership of Son and Bouanga, the club has now scored 10 goals over its last three matches while conceding just once. Bouanga has now reached 10 goals in 17 MLS appearances this season, while Son has quickly rediscovered his scoring touch after opening his LAFC career with 13 straight league matches without a goal despite leading MLS in assists.
With the victory, LAFC moved level atop the Western Conference standings on 33 points alongside Vancouver and San Jose, although both clubs still have matches in hand. Sporting Kansas City, meanwhile, remains at the bottom of the Western Conference after another difficult outing.
